Molly Andrus ’19

Molly on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Molly Andrus was a 2019 Global Studies graduate. She is currently working on the front lines against Covid-19 as an EMT/MA at Ocean State Urgent Care and Contact Tracer at Partners in Health.

What do you do?

As an EMT/MA at a testing site I participate in the testing process from patient intake, to testing, to communicating results. As a contact tracer I call patients who have been documented as coming into contact with a positive case. I work to ensure they are able to get tested as well as connect them to vital resources for physical, logistical or mental support.

How has your work changed during COVID 19?

Work has become a lot less personal. We cannot spend time with patients or really talk to them. We wear full PPE, see patients in cars, and have up to one patient every 7 minutes for testing.

What advice would you give to a current Friar who might want to get into your field?

Follow your passion. People will try to push onto you that there is only one way to get where you want to be but if you do what you love and always keep your dream in mind you will bring yourself there! I wanted to go to PA school but also wanted to major in global studies so I did what I loved and now am working for my favorite global health nonprofit while I wait for PA school to start!
